Assessment

Years 7-9

In years 7-9 the assessment should reflect ongoing achievement.

Years 10 - 12

Assessment should reflect the achievements of the student at that time.

Assessment schedules are published and issued to students each year for the School Certificate, Preliminary Year (11) and the Higher School Certificate courses. These schedules outline and notify of all courses’ assessment giving the nature and weighting of assessment tasks and the timing of such. The assessment process is ongoing, increasing in weighting towards the end of the course.

All assessment tasks outlined in these schedules will be given to students in detailed form (marking guidelines and rubrics) on an assessment task sheet at least two weeks before the task is due. Examinations as tasks are exempt from this.

Any task needing to be rescheduled will be given to students in a written form before the date the task was originally scheduled to occur. It is desirable that rescheduled tasks occur around the original scheduled time. Notification should also be given to the Principal, head teachers students and the newsletter editor.

No tasks will be scheduled in the week before or after an examination period.

All HSC tasks should be completed by the trial HSC.

HSC VET

The courses within the Industry Curriculum Framework are competency-based courses. The AQTF requires that a competency-based approach to assessment be used and that a record be held by the RTO of the competencies achieved.

In a competency-based course, assessment of competencies is judged against a prescribed standard contained in each unit of competency, not against the performance of other participants.
